An uncommon commitment to the common good

Established in 2017, the Benson Society bears the name of Bruce and Marcy Benson, whose personal and professional dedication to philanthropy and service to the University of Colorado as former president and first lady have left an indelible mark on our institution. The society celebrates philanthropic benefactors (individuals, families and family foundations) who share Bruce and Marcy’s vision for a better world–and whose investments in CU’s programs, people and facilities exceed $1 million in lifetime gifts or commitments.
 

Membership in the Benson Society represents the pinnacle of philanthropy at CU, a signal of donor vision and generosity that benefits our world with enduring impact. In its inaugural year, the society celebrated 365 members. By 2023, its ranks had grown to 710 (from 439 households) members, who had collectively invested $1.8 billion in philanthropic gifts to CU. Today, the number of honorees continues to climb, along with the society's significance for CU and the world.
